Where things stand heading into Finals Night on Aug 23
The 2014 Johnny Weaver Memorial Cup Tournament is well under way and 3 of the coveted 4 semi-final spots have already been grabbed, with the 4th semi-finalist to be decided on Saturday August 9 at “10 Things I Hate About You.” Here’s a look at how the tournament has unfolded thus far:
June 21 – Absolute Justice 2014:
JORDAN FLYGHT scored a huge upset over Television Champion MANNY GARCIA in the first bout of the RIP HAWK BLOCK to kick off the tournament.
Underdog COURT MONTGOMERY hoped lightning would strike twice but was not so lucky against a dominant MARCELLUS KING.
King capitalized on an injury Jordan suffered against Garcia to score a victory in the quarter-finals, winning the block and becoming the first man to punch his ticket to Finals Night.
Winner of the Rip Hawk Block & 1st Semi-Finalist: MARCELLUS KING
July 12 – Opportunity Knocks 2014:
“DANGEROUS E” COREY EDSEL, locked out of future Mid-Atlantic Championship bouts due to a stipulation match at Absolute Justice, cited entry into the Weaver Cup Tournament as a potential loop hole since the winner receives a guaranteed title shot. He defeated DONNIE DOLLARS in a slug fest to kick off the SWEDE HANSEN BLOCK of this year’s tournament.
In the other Hansen Block first round bout, Rising Generation League Champion CHARLIE WESTON continued his Cinderella story of 2014 by defeating “THE LOST CAUSE” NICK RICHARDS to advance.
Our quarter final round bout of the Hansen Block pitted the Haymaker Punch of Edsel versus the Superman Punch of Weston but it was Edsel’s punching power that proved superior as he won the block and moved on.
Winner of the Swede Hansen Block & 2nd Semi-Finalist: “DANGEROUS E” COREY EDSEL.
July 19 – No Excuses 2014:
ARIK ROYAL was on an absolute rampage after being robbed of his Mid-Atlantic Championship by the All Stars’ Roy Wilkins on July 12. He nearly tore the building down in his first round bout against the All Stars’ RAY KANDRACK, advancing after brawling all over the building with the Coach’s MVP.
TREVOR LEE had perhaps the match of the tournament so far defeating Dragon Gate’s RICH SWANN in the first round of the Don Kernodle Bracket to force a Battlecade rematch against Royal in the quarter finals.
The New Mid-Atlantic Champ Roy Wilkins made his presence known in the quarter final round as he attempted to KO Royal with the Mid-Atlantic Championship belt. But Royal avoided the shot and Wilkins ended up accidentally knocking Trevor Lee out of the tournament as Royal advanced while staring down the champion.
Winner of the Don Kernodle Block & 3rd Semi-Finalist: ARIK ROYAL.
August 9 – 10 Things I Hate About You:
Former CWF Rumble winner BRAD ATTITUDE put down former RGL Champion CHET STERLING in a battle of CWF dojo standouts past and present to advance to the quarter finals.
New Mid-Atlantic Champ ROY WILKINS stole one from Ultra J Champion LANCE LUDE with help from Coach Gemini and the All Stars to move on.
In the evening’s main event, the All Stars tried again to interfere on Wilkins’ behalf but Attitude’s buddies in the Dynasty prevented that and Brad Attitude slipped past the champion to punch his ticket to Finals Night.
Winner of the George Becker Block & 4th Semi-Finalist: BRAD ATTITUDE.
The tournament semi-finals and finals all goes down Saturday August 23 on Finals Night live from the Mid-Atlantic Sportatorium in Gibsonville, North Carolina!
